Ben, a Paraplanner with The Rock’s parent company MyState Limited, has decided to travel to Rockhampton for his next running challenge which will take him striahgt up Mt Archer, competing in the Challenge the Mountain fun run, sponsored by The Rock.
The Rock, an iconic business in Central Queensland is proud to partner with such an iconic sporting event in Challenge the Mountain. The unrelenting 5km race sees competitors tackling the glorious Mt Archer, which has a 10 per cent gradient slope.
Ben will be accompanied on the run by Rock employee, Adam Bryan.
In the lead up to Challenge the Mountain, Ben’s race schedule has seen him compete in a 100m trail run and a 100km road run. As well as competitive racing, he has also been partaking in a gruelling training schedule which sees him running over 150km per week.
Competitions such as the Challenge the Mountain motivate people like Ben to achieve their life goals.
“I have always set tough goals for myself, this is how I continue to motivate and push myself to achieve my full potential,” said Ben.
“Although I have endured a lot of tough races, Challenge the Mountain will be no walk in the park. If you think Mt Wellington is hard, try running up Mt Archer.
“Another amazing thing about Challenge the Mountain is that the entry fees go towards updating facilities on the mountain, which will benefit the community.
“I would personally like to thank Donna James from the Rock for organising everything. She is an amazing example of what MyState values represent and she has inspired me, which is the reason I wanted to participate and show my support!”
The Rock is proud to be a Silver sponsor of the event as well as providing volunteers for the registration and also the water station.
Ben’s top motivational tips
Keep running fun
Don’t run because you have to, run because you want to. Keep running fun by organising a run with your friends, vary it up! Run in different places and on different surfaces, one might be through the city, then the next day, on the trails or even on the beach.
Set yourself a goal
Whether it is running your first Ultra Marathon or just running 1km without stopping, goals are your most powerful motivator. When you achieve them they can bring self confidence, self worth and a lots of bragging rights. Remember, it’s important not to put a timeframe on your goals, this will result in unwanted pressure and potentional dissapointment.
Share your journey
Whether you have been on a long trail run or hike, share the amazing photos you have taken. If you have just ran further or faster than you ever had before, share it and be proud to let others know what you have achieved. People will motivate you to continue kicking butt and you know what, you might even motivate them to start running too.
Believe in yourself
There is no goal too big or crazy, its about having a crack and doing something you never thought you could ever achieve.
